Dr. Courter has practiced dentistry since 1980. He grew up in Midland, Texas, and first became interested in dentistry after junior high career testing pointed him toward the field. During high school, he spent time visiting local dentists and even toured Baylor College of Dentistry, where he became fascinated by the blend of art, science, and hands-on problem solving that dentistry offered.

He attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1975, and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) Dental School in San Antonio in 1979. After completing his training, he returned to Midland, worked as an associate for two years, and opened his own private practice in 1982.

Dr. Courter provides cosmetic, general, restorative, and orthodontic care, and has completed over 1,200 hours of continuing education across all areas of dentistry, with a strong focus on cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, and orthodontics. He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and the American Orthodontic Society. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Midland.

Dr. Courter has been married to his wife, Shelley, for over 40 years. She is also his most trusted team member at the practice. Together, they have five sons, six grandsons, and four granddaughters. On weekends, you’ll find him playing a round of golf, scuba diving, fly-fishing, or relaxing at the lake. As he likes to say, he’s worn many hats over the years, including being a private pilot for 10 years. But being a dentist in his hometown, he says, is his greatest privilege.
